Part of the “Access” installation art show on Belle Isle. I am black and mixed, on my mother’s side of the family my great-grandfather was an enslaved man from Tennessee, and my estranged father’s great-grandfather was the enslaver to Booker T Washington. It is my sincere wish that this sort of division based on larger structures of oppression and hate can degrade over time and become less and less of an acceptable reality. I believe that my existence is proof that we can be on the same page, with the same team, and family.
